My understanding of history in 1948 was that the Arabs who lived in what is now Israel, were NOT displaced,but were actually encouraged to leave their homes by the Arab armies who said they would return as soon as the Israelis were pushed to the sea.

The Palestinians had their best chance for peace with Barak's offers,but their demand for right of return,which would lead to Israel's destruction,can not be accepted by any Israeli government.
