Almost nobody qualifies for this program.

No there are a lot. Some people who would not bother with a smaller car are doing so. I talked to someone the other day who is going to trade in his full sized truck for a Ford Ranger. For me to do that they would have to give me the truck plus the $4,500 plus a new engine for the one I know will blow up! I say that because the Mazda (which is what a Ford Ranger is) I once owned blew its engine. Then the overhauled engine blew! The first time it spun a bearing and the second the crankshaft broke.

I might consider this If I can find mid sized truck that gets as good a gas millage as my Taurus. I have a mid sized truck but it's worth more than $4,500. IMO they should not have insisted the vehicle be junked. That way you could trade in any vehicle for one with better gas millage. That would cause a glut of used cars on the market and dive their price down. The low price would put more of them in the salvage and scrap yards. But the lefties don't understand markets do they?
