Hi Gary,

Interesting problem you have there. I'll guess that the clock chip is either dead or the battery has died. Sometimes having the battery die will reset the BIOS and you're computer wouldn't function correctly, but it could be the RTC (Real Time Clock) chip that doesn't work.

Diagnostics can be a bit etchy at finding this problem.

Bring it into a local shop and have them check the battery. Only suggestion I can think of.
