ONE Billion Bore Chest....

>>Unfortunately I view Novell as being much like Digital Equipment and VMS. Novell has the mindset that if you create a wonderful operating system the world will beat a path to your door. WRONG! They should be using that 1 billion war chest to get out there and advertise like Microsoft does. Cash flow is everything. They should be able to turn that billion into two or three billion.>>

Mark:

Novell's biggest problem is that their mindset doesn't permit them to operate as catalysts which lite fuses that can launch transforming ACTION rockets.

I'm sure there are people inside Novell who are perfectly capable of this high energy, high impact potential that can create the right empowered environment.

Eric does not strike me as this type of person. While I have never met Steve Adams, I'm getting a better sense that he and his co-side kick Dave Shirk could be the dynamically wild and crazy duo who can pull marketing genies out of dusty brown bottles.

Novell's ONE billion in cash has been a boring embarrassment. It's a reflection of their clutching, possessive, closed mindset that has a hard time believing even themselves enough to take the necessary risks which will attract attention - good or bad.

This is Novell's ONE billion dollar black hole. It's there to keep the Old "they gotta come to us" mindset alive and handing on to political ropes.

If Novell is ready to begin really acting like they believe in massively, massively, massively changing the world - and that's the ONLY attitude one can have in their position - then they should spend this money on targeted risks which grow pies.

They need to find ways of spending this money which create and support open, giving loops of energy, data and information - between and among individuals, groups, associations, companies, etc.

Spend money to help launch communities in this New Age of Service - communities which can discover Novell's presence as a guiding, empowering positive force.

That ONE billion is going nowhere fast.

BELIEF + TRUST + RISK + ACTION = LOVE.

Novell needs to start learning how to LOVE.

Then a totally New energy will take over Novell. People will naturally be attracted to the communities which Novell can be a part of. The energy will be outwardly focused and the mindset will have shifted.

Somewhere, somehow and in some way, this transformation needs to get started.

Peace.

GO!!
