ISDN Ordering for GlobeTrotter GT Remote Access Products
Now Simplified by National Ordering Codes

WESTBORO, Mass., May 20 /PRNewswire/ -- OpenROUTE(TM) Networks Inc. today
announced that its popular series of Integrated Services Digital Network
(ISDN) remote access routers has successfully completed Bellcore's Customer
Premise Equipment ordering code registration process. All four GlobeTrotter
models (GT 70U, GT 70 S/T, GT 72U and GT 72U S/T) achieved registration for
National ISDN Ordering Code (IOC) for both capability "R" and "EZ-ISDN1"
service.
Bellcore's Technical Auditing Service Group conducted the translation
review and registration of GT products at its National ISDN Customer Premises
Equipment Testing Facility in Morristown, N.J. OpenROUTE Networks' products
underwent rigorous review and testing with Bellcore which involved making
repeated intra-switch and inter-switch phone calls between multiple routers
and a wide variety of switches. A copy of the registration review is
available from OpenROUTE Networks.
IOCs (ISDN Ordering Codes) simplify the ISDN acquisition process and
expedite service provider provisioning. This means that customers who
purchase OpenROUTE Networks equipment will find it easier and simpler to order
ISDN service from their local exchange carriers.
"These IOC classifications provide GT customers with a straightforward and
easy method to order the service," said Robert Koch, OpenROUTE Networks vice
president of product planning and management. "Simplifying the ordering
process reduces provisioning time and possible errors and makes the adoption
of ISDN solutions more attractive to typical end-users and service providers -
an important step for the fast-growing ISDN industry. Voice and data
integration over a common ISDN BRI becomes even more appealing to a broader
range of customers who will benefit from high performance ISDN," added Koch.
Bellcore assigned the following IOCs for the GT products: Capability
Package "R" (Circuit Switched Data on both B-channels and Caller ID) and
Package "EZ-ISDN 1" (Alternate Circuit Switched VOICE/DATA on both B-channels,
Caller ID and Additional Call Offering (ACO).
Bellcore provides engineering, administrative and other technical services
to the telecommunications companies of Ameritech, Bell Atlantic, BellSouth,
NYNEX, Pacific Telesis, SBC Communications and US West. Bellcore is one of
the world's largest consultants and providers of telecommunications
information networking equipment. Eighty percent of the United States public
telecommunications network depends on technology invented, developed,
implemented and maintained by Bellcore. Headquartered in Morristown, N.J.,
Bellcore serves more than 800 customers worldwide in 55 countries and in a
variety of industries.

Outpacing the Competition
In a comprehensive ISDN industry test report released last fall, OpenROUTE
Networks' GT 70 models outpaced 16 competing products with unparalleled price-
performance advantages. The testing, which measured ISDN router and bridge
performance, was sponsored by Strategic Networks Consulting, Inc., Rockland,
Mass., a leading market research firm and networking consultancy.
The GT 70-U surpassed all competing products in two critical areas: data
compression and ISDN call setup. The data compression throughput test
involved transferring a highly compressible Adobe Postscript(TM) file in four
configurations using a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) receive window of
24570 bytes. Data compression results, with 24K Postscript file throughput,
put the GlobeTrotter unit ahead of 13 products that were tested in that
category. The GlobeTrotter's file transfer throughput was 39.5 Kbyes/sec,
achieving a 4-to-1 ratio.
The call setup test compared measurements of the elapsed time between the
transmission of an ICMP Echo Request that must be forwarded across an ISDN
circuit and the receipt of the corresponding ICMP Echo Reply -- commonly known
as a "ping." When compared with 13 other Internet Protocol (IP) routers, the
GT 70 outpaced the competition by making the connection in close to a half
second.
