Jim...

Ameritrade explained it to me today. I was curious to see why I sometimes got buy fills on the bid for a better price not on the ask as I expected.

Ameritrade said something like it is a Manning order. Since these orders are done manually if they see a buy and sell coming in at the same price and time they will sometimes fill the buy at the bid to wipe both orders off the books. That scenario I like and I have had it happen several times at Ameritrade the most recent on GONT when it was .50 by .52. I had a limit buy order in at .52 and to my surprise it was filled at .50. The ask never hit .50 that day.
