Intel to do another round of layoffs.
A good friend got his layoff notice today after 19 years at Intel....
Strange that it is not big news here in the Silicon Valley... I guess they only care about iPhones and Twitter news.

HILLSBORO, Ore. (KOIN) — Employees at Intel’s Ronler Acres Campus in Hillsboro said they were told about layoffs within the company a few weeks ago, but they haven’t heard anything since. Now, they’re not sure who’s safe.
“It’s huge, I mean they have been building apartment complexes just for the people who come here from out of state,” local optician Courtney Elder said. “It’s a huge part of our client base.”
Elder, who works at EyeHealth Northwest, said nearly 70% of her clients work at Intel. Recent talk of layoffs within the company have many worried for the community, with nearly 18,000 employed there in Washington County alone.
“As someone who lives and works in the community, it’s definitely going to affect us quite a bit,” Elder said.
Company sources told KOIN 6 News some people were offered a layoff buyout leave. Voluntary separation packages, or VSPs, were also offered at the beginning of the year. But the employee said each department varies on how many people took the voluntary packages, and the company appears to be keeping details on the number of layoffs under wraps.
“We are not commenting on reports of layoffs,” Intel Corporate Spokesperson Chuck Mulloy in Santa Clara, California said in a statement.
Lonnie Martinez, a business unemployment specialist with Worksource Oregon, said local offices haven’t been contacted by the company, but they’re ready to help those with pink slips move forward with tech industry employment specialists.
“Worksource Oregon does have a pulse on it, that’s why we have an account representative system that’s targeted toward that industry,” Martinez said.
Meanwhile, Hillsboro residents said they’ll be watching to see if there is any fallout.
“I know what companies like Intel do, they sort of hire, layoff and respond to market,” Randy Randolph from Hillsboro said. “I guess it’s sort of what big companies do.”
Workers who are laid off will be paid through mid-July. The layoffs come on the heels of a flat sales quarter.
