Yes I agree it's not nice to pay taxes! And puts a disincentive on switching to a comparable investment.

As I noted in one of my first posts on this topic, VTSS has under performed the broad universe of IC comm companies over the last several years (e.g., CNXT, BRCM, TQNT, PMCS, etc.), not just AMCC. It has still done danged well -- if all my long term holdings did so well, I would have no cause for complaint. Perhaps the less relative strength is simply because it is a larger company than AMCC, and therefore less volatile.

I do hold some of my VTSS in an IRA, so if I thought there was a problem here (by the way, unless I learn something new, at this point I categorically do not) I would have at least lightened up on this (no tax issues). But my current conclusion is that it is still a long term winner.
