Linda,

The 240 Mhz (603e) 3400 is the fastest laptop on Earth among currently selling models. The 300 Mhz 6500 (desktop) has the fastest clock speed and Apple is pushing the 7300 models (also desktop) with and optional PC compatabilty board.
If you're looking for a very fast PowerBook with PC compatability, I would recommend the 240 MHz 3400 with an additional purchase of Virtual PC (software) from Connectix. For $149, Virtual PC will allow you to run Windows 95' (or Windows 3.11 if you choose...ugh) at the same time you are running MacOS software. The VPC software tricks your Mac into thinking it's a Wintel box. It works amazingly well. You'll need to add RAM to the basic 3400 configuration, but you'd probably want to do that anyway. You can figure on using about 1 Gig of your hard disk space to handle the Windows side of your Mac, depending of course on how many Windows applications you have.
Just as a final note, faster PowerBooks are on the way, probably within the next few months, using G3 processor technology as well as other improvemnets. However, if you need a laptop today, the 3400 series is truely outstanding. But be sure to shop the price and compare the features of the three 3400 models, as there is a significant price range.

Good Luck,

Scott
