Very believable. Also believable that airlines will be the first casualty of the peak. Air travel will soon be for the very wealthy, and military only.

And like a lot of other aspects of the peak problem, there IS a theoretical alternative. Hydrogen makes a lousy aviation fuel, but it has been tried (experiments go back to at least the 1950s) and would be worth trying again -- if anyone cared enough to find a source of hydrogen that doesn't deplete fossil fuels.

To me this is another mystery of the peak. The airline industries collapse will take a lot of other companies with it:

- hotels
- Disneyland
- Boeing, Airbus

all of which accordingly have an incentive to prepare for the day. So where are they? If as I predict peak oil makes them the first to crash, they're going to take a lot of other businesses with them.
