Another upgrade for SUNW: Sun Microsystems Inc (SUNW)

Sanford Bernstein said on Friday it upgraded SUN MICROSYSTEMS INC to outperform from market perform. Said raised its 4Q 2000 earnings estimate to $0.33 a share from
$0.30 a share. Said raised its fiscal 2001 earnings estimate to $1.26 a share from $1.22 a share. Said believes Sun should be able to manage the transition to US-3-based servers with minimal impact on revenues. The transition to US-3, Sun's new chip, had been Sanford Bernstein's principal short-term concern. (Reuters 12:48 PM ET 05/12/2000)

===========================================================

That's a 3% increase in the fiscal 2001 estimate and a 10% increase in the Q4 2000 estimate.

That put's us at 67x's next year PE which is still high considering the stated growth rate from management. I would like to see new revenue streams from products under development. I believe some of those set-top cable boxes with the SUNW spark chip are scheduled to be delivered soon. Maybe this will provide an indication as to the future potential size of the end-user consumer "appliance" market.

Also, I still have not seen the storage side of SUNW's business kick into high gear. Maybe EMC is tending to be a more formable competitor than first expected.
