I think today's lower open could prove to be a short term buying opportunity for day traders. I don't think staying long beyond today will prove a winning bet in most semiconductor stocks.

I still believe there is not enough buying interest to take us higher in this uncertain environment.

The VIX is at extremely low levels. The SOX just has not shown me enough strength to make me believe the last five trading sessions meant much of anything longer term.

That being said I would buy long many of the stocks discussed here if we do get a sell off. I'm just not chasing anything even though it would not surprise me at all to see the lower open today turn into a rally.

From Briefing.com: 8:44AM Opening Indications : The pre-market indicators are off the worst levels of the morning but remain firmly negative. The S&P 500 futures are 5.1 points below fair value while the Nasdaq 100 futures are 20 points below fair value.

8:22AM Juniper Networks buys Siemens unit for $740 mln (JNPR) 9.85: Announces acquisition of Siemens subsidiary Unisphere Networks for $740 mln, of which $375 mln will be paid in cash. JNPR expects deal to be slightly dilutive in 2002 and accretive in 2003. At the close of the transaction, Siemens will own slightly less than 10% of the shares outstanding in JNPR.

8:07AM Intel: Solly sees positive pricing cycle (INTC) 31.20: Salomon Smith Barney says that the reasons for chip price declines over the last 18 months are reversing: the PC mkt is gradually recovering, INTC continues to widen the gap between avg P4 and AMD Athlon speed grades, and the mix shift has turned positive again; no price cuts for 5 months after May should result in rising "blended" avg selling prices in 2H02. Also, it appears that INTC is exceeding plan in ramping its 0.13-um process, which is helping it pull forward new speed grades by at least a qtr.
