Except that Pauls point is that the $1,000 PC can do anything that the NetPC can do. If you use ONLY the browser on the NetPC, the running costs go way down as well. And you can still play Doom, which hasn't been released for the NetPC yet.

I hadn't realised that the IBM stuff was sans monitor. Phewwweee! Not to mention that the latest ActiveX/Java stuff runs pretty slowly on my T1 line at work. Figure the cost of an ISDN line as well as $700 for the box.

A colleague of mine mentioned that a local store is selling a Pentium 90, 8MB RAM, 1.2GB hard disk with CD ROM for $800. Which would you rather have?

Maybe Larry has simply created a huge demand for old PC's. If it drives the price of my old 386DX-40 (sorry Intel!) way up then I'm even happier!
