Well if the server is going to be commoditized then you know damn well that storage services will become commoditized pretty quickly (if they aren't already being done). The challenge for all of these players is that all these InterNet services will begin to be commoditized.

EMC's convenient arguments seem to forget the leverage that the Server OS has in efficiently implementing SAN's. From the tone of the EMC responses it certainly appears that EMC may well indeed be getting squeezed into a corner more than the other players. HWP dumps their partnership; EMC admits the OS will remain on the server not on the SAN; the OS still remains a layer above the SAN; InterNet bandwidth still is the bottleneck not storage bandwidth; looks like they're teaming with the "behind the curve" MSFT Win2000 as the "big boys" will develop their own commoditized storage to replace EMC.
