know we all used to think of foreigners as somehow unequal to Americans, but folks, we'd all better wake up, because the playing field has changed and the quality of the competition is damn good and getting better every day, while we sit on our thumbs and think we're superior.
So mindmeld, if their engineers are so wonderful where are the great Indian/Chinese technology companies? The Indians have some world class IT services companies, because they are able to do an equal quality tech point project (not product, project) at 1/4th the labor cost, but if their engineers are so great why did Apple just introduce the iPhone while the Indian/Chinese companies are nowhere to be found in the cell phone industry?
Don't you think your argument is a bit loaded? You are going along pulling examples that fit your argument and ignoring those that don't. When it comes to Japan, it has some things going on that, in fact, outclass the US. For an example, Toyota is about to become the largest car company in the world by taking over Ford's spot this past year and now GM's spot this year. Their cars are some of the most innovative and best designed cars in the world. Meanwhile, American car companies are mostly smelling up the joint. I can say the same thing about consumer products except with Germany, not Japan. Some of the best consumer products come out of Germany.......America's consumer products tend to be less than competitive.
Each nation is good at something while bad at something else. It does not mean that one is more superior than the other. Given the advantages the US has over the Japanese, its amazing that Japan is on the same economic level as the US. That takes a kind of creative and critical thinking that we may not be capable of. |
