MSFT have always bought stock in the open market, but this has
been to fund the employee stock purchase program rather than
de-whatever the shares and take them out of circulation. If MSFT
has started buying back shares for the purpose of increasing
shareholder value, it would indeed be news. However, I suspect Bill
thinks he can do more with the cash than shareholders.

I didn't know about the offer to engineers! If MSFT can get NT out
before Aug, that would be very good news! There's been talk of a
stock split for some time now, but no official position. Has that
changed?
