YYB,
Thank you for the invitation to the thread. I am saddened to see that despite your polite and clear request that those who have differing beliefs take it elsewhere, you have already attracted the usual 'I'm smarter, more educated, more morally superior' group of protesters who believe it is incumbent upon them to make sure everyone else knows it. Hopefully, these people will also decide to be more polite and respect the stated intent of the header.
I have pretty much left SI, but I will follow your thread as I am strongly pro-choice. I have never debated it here, nor do I see any reason to do so-- in five years of SI, I have never seen an opinion changed on any issue, though there is the occasional post that offers some new slant or idea, and very, very occasionally, some meeting of reasonable minds. This question has no one-size-fits-all, right or wrong answer (regardless of some opinions to the contrary) nor has it one which the opposing side will ever accept. You have acknowledged this and the fact that this thread is for those who have concluded that, for various reasons, they support a woman's right to choose. Most of us are quite aware of the facts of fetal development and have wrestled with the ethical issues. I need no lectures from anyone about the religious or moral aspects.
I hope that those with their own political and moral agenda will for once show some restraint and respect for others without forcing the thread into a moderated format. |
