Allen: I think you missed a couple of reasons the LS-120 will fail.

1. Price. The LS-120 is more complex, and will always cost more to make than the Zip.

2. Speed. The LS-120 is much slower than the Zip. When in 1.44 compatibility mode it is even slower than a standard floppy drive.

For both of these reasons, desktop users are certain to prefer having both a 1.44 FD and a Zip 100. And if you have a Zip in your desktop, you will certainly want one in your laptop also.
