The objective standard? How about taxpayers subsidizing the stadiums, and/or paying the overages on the bond issues etc so that A-Rod can get $26 million. That's not really an objective standard about how much someone should get paid, or should be allowed to be paid. It's a seperate issue. Its and issue where I agree with you, but a player could get paid a ton without a tax payer financed stadiums, or players could get very little with such tax payer finance. By subsidizing stadiums the taxpayer is enabling salaries like A-Rod's. What civilization was bought down by paying its entertainers too much money? I said "corruption and disregard for the common good"......why did you delete that portion of my sentence and substitute "entertainers"? "Corruption and disregard for the common good" is to general to be very meaningful in this context. No it isn't........its very specific. Civilizations have been destroyed by "fire and the sword", but that's hardly an argument for outlawing fire or instituting "sword control". Maybe.....but most civilizations make every effort to restrict them. Why do you think that is? In this case the issue is an overpaid entertainer. You apparently think its unjust, and perhaps should be illegal for him to make so much. Then you start talking about civilization collapse. High salaries for ball players, or the ability of air-headed heiress to flaunt their wealth, aren't going to be major factors in any civilizational/national collapse.
