Well, OK, you and CGB both seem to like wordier posts. It seems to me that philosophical relativism is a self-refuting concept, since with a basis of relativism you really cannot say anything about anything. Ultimately we all use some absolutes, such as the basic rules of logic, the laws of identity, non-contradiction, and the excluded middle. There are relational ideas that are absolute, and these allow us to measure degrees of difference between those things that are not fixed.

The areas of dispute that commonly give rise to "relativism" are normative statements, moral judgements, ethics, and similarly abstract concepts about values. It is often difficult to even agree on definitions when discussing some of these ideas.
