Iomega holds numerous patents covering many aspects of Zip drive and disk cartridge design. The Zip technology is by no means owned by Fuji.

What Fuji owns is ATOMM technology, which is a method for coating a floppy disk surface in such a way as to allow for higher data capacities than are possible using older methods. Yes, the ATOMM technology is one of the necessary parts of the whole Zip picture. But it is certainly not the whole picture.
