"The areas of dispute that commonly give rise to "relativism" are normative statements, moral judgements, ethics, and similarly abstract concepts about values. It is often difficult to even agree on definitions when discussing some of these ideas."

I think I know what you are saying. Normative statements, moral judgements and ethics are somewhat antithetical to relativism which defines reality in a morally neutral humanly centered locus. Relativism can be problematic because relativists don't take absolute stands on anything but disputes over values don't give rise to relativism. Relativism can help explain these disputes intra or interculturally but I hardly think relativists start or exacerbate such arguments. Of course relativism is very unsatisfying because it resolves nothing, and provides no absolutes. It is however supported by our empircial experience.
