Thanks, RocketMan. I agree and hold out hope that caching and mirroring will assist in this area. As will ever-faster CPU processors and tunneling (prioritization) techniques.

In keeping with your request, I wont expound much (you know how that pains me, don't you? <s>), but I'd like to say only that where VoIP is concerned it's a lot like taking five steps forward, and four (sometimes six) steps backwards with each additional layer of sophistication and complexity. The key remains in keeping things simple, but sometimes that's simpler said than done.

Current latencies are governed by a limited number of factors. As VoIP enters the realms of VPNs, secure networks, and heterogeneous domains, those latency factors increase. Let's hope that the mitigation techniques keep up with the inhibiting effects of additional layers of processing requirements, which, by definition, result in greater overall latencies.
