Mashushita to make 100,000 ZIPs a month in China!

<<Comline Computer Wire via Individual Inc. -- Matsushita Communication Industrial
<6781> will begin mass producing its Zip floppy disk drives in China. They are
incorporated in computers, and Matsushita has already signed sales contracts with
several makers. The size of memory units is growing, and Matsushita intends to make
memory one of the pillars of its operations. Zip drives are well established in the
American market and the maker wants to popularize the 100-megabyte capacity drives in
the Japanese market as well. It holds as much as 70 ordinary floppy disks. It can hold
vast amounts of picture information. Matsushita bought a license to make the drive from
I. O. Mega, a Utah manufacturer, last year. The new mass production will be overseen
by former Philippine Matsushita president Wada. Production will start at 2,000 - 3,000
units/month and build to 100,000 units/month. >>
