In reference to Peggy Noonan's article

online.wsj.com

Both Peggy Noonan and Mrs. Reagan have given the polite appropriate response to Ted Kennedy's death.

It was most appropriate that President Reagan in 1985 go to the McLean home of the Kennedy's to honor President John F. Kennedy at a fundraiser for the Kennedy Presidential Library.

As Peggy Noonan published, President Reagan's remarks were pure Reagan----honoring JFK and Rose Kennedy, the mother of the clan.

No sitting president would have refused the invitation to go to McLean to speak to honor a deceased President.

The fact is that McLean, despite being the home of the Kennedy's went overwhelmingly for Repulicans in both 1980 and in 1984.

Democrats who had voted for Carter followed Reagan to the Republican Party and were welcomed----the Virginia General Assembly became overwhelmingly Republican---no longer meeting in a phone booth as some described.

Likewise, Ted Kennedy did the appropriate thing in sending a note of appreciation to President Ronal Reagan.

Sure, they worked together; however, I question whether this was a "close" friendship between Ted Kennedy and President Reagan-----at best a friendship necessitated within the framework of politics.
