I also believe there should be checks and balances where the drug companies are concerned. However, I think the job could be handled much more effectively if the job was privatized. Drug companies are very capable of shading the truth for thier own benefit. I ought to know. I've seen them do it on my job enough times. On the other hand, the consumer has a very potent weapon to deal with drug companies that release unsafe products to the public. It's called a law suit. My company was one of the ones involved with the silicon breast implant law suits and it cost them plenty. So, it is in their best interest to police their own products effectiviely.
