INS UNVEILS WAN CENTER OF EXCELLENCE
Sunnyvale, CA, April 21, 1997 -- International Network Services (INS), a worldwide provider of services for complex enterprise networks, today announced the creation of a specialized Center of Excellence dedicated to supporting the company's service delivery and skills development in wide area networking (WAN) technologies. This initiative will enable INS to respond to the escalating demand for implementation of frame relay, Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) switching, and other emerging WAN technologies in the Cisco internetworking environments, initially.
"INS has, and will continue to provide vendor independent network consulting services for leading edge WAN technologies," stated John Drew, President and Chief Operating Officer of INS. "However, we believe that the growing demand for rapid implementation of Stratacom technology within Cisco's internetworking environment requires a very focused and specialized approach to providing consulting services supporting Planning, Design, Implementation, Operations and Optimization of these networks. This is particularly important for inter-continental applications of WAN technology as global telecommunications companies and major multinational corporations move towards collapsing voice traffic onto their data networking infrastructure."
"We welcome INS' initiative in establishing their new Center of Excellence," said John Chambers, CEO of Cisco. "To take full advantage of the tremendous benefit that our WAN solutions provide, the market needs the specialized skills which INS offers on a worldwide level. We are pleased that INS has chosen to invest in this area."
The Dallas Texas-based WAN Center of Excellence will serve as the focal point for the company's training and collaboration of network engineers with the specialized skills necessary to address the complex requirements of this market. Specifically, the Center will emphasize the unique technical, management, and process skills required to design, deploy, and administer complex WAN technology. The company will also establish a WAN engineering forum of internal and external experts. By leveraging its company-wide Knowledge Network, INS will utilize a structured knowledge acquisition process to collect and disseminate "real-world" WAN insight on WAN critical technical and process management issues, specific vertical market drivers and best practices.
Currently, INS has deployed WAN project management and implementation capabilities throughout the U.S., in London, Rome, Dusseldorf and Hong Kong.
The new Center will leverage INS' existing WAN skills, resources, and relationships to meet its clients' needs. In particular, the Center will capitalize on the company's:
EnterprisePROSM network performance management service capabilities to baseline, benchmark, and verify WAN service levels. Proven track-record as an independent, multi-vendor network integrator, with established relationships with the leading suppliers of WAN technologies. In-depth expertise in Layers 2 and 3 WAN/LAN planning, design, integration, and operations support worldwide. Extensive WAN technology project management experience with leading telecommunications carriers worldwide. Established corporate training program, called INS University, which provides a combination of centralized and regionalized technical, project management and consulting skills development. Company-wide knowledge management system and interactive solutions database of over 7000 internal and external technical documents.
