All: Just curious. . . Using the Linux OS, is there a way to be able to:

(Not using any Microsoft products. . .)

1. Surf the internet with a good browser that has all of the bells & whistles, java, etc. (will really function)?

2. Email capable of using attachments, viewing them, forwarding, etc.?

3. Spreadsheets that are compatible / useable with MSWorks so they can be emailed, etc. to other people and be able to be used (if they're using MSWorks)?

4. Simple word processing equivalent to MSWorks?

5. LAN capability as we know it with Windows without any major pains? Routers, NIC's, etc.?

6. Without spending an arm & a leg?

If so, how would one start to do it?

Could both systems (Windows & Linux) exist on the same system (computer)?

Where would I get the OS?
Where would I get the software?

Now, I don't know the answers. . . that's why I'm asking. . . they have been knawing at my gut for some time now.

I have heard that the Linux OS is impossible to penetrate with a "virus". . . is that true?
If so, isn't it a "no brainer"?

So, is it possible?

If I am asking stupid questions, please forgive me.

TIA,
Joe
