Smithee, Sadly, this is not, by far, an isolated incident and never will be. I note he was wearing a helmet but suffered massive internal injuries. Typical, sadly.
Years ago, I was stopped behind a motorcycle at a stoplight. As is my habit, I was looking in the other direction to watch for the yellow light which would would tell me that green light in my direction was imminent. Seeing the yellow light, I then turned to look straight ahead. Something jogged my mind that there had been a motorcyclist in front of me who was not there now. I knew he could not have gone anywhere that fast, so I got out of my car to have a look and saw he had somehow dropped his bike and he and the bike were down on the pavement right in front of my car, out of my line of vision. No he wasn't hurt, and he was able to pick up his bike and be on his way. Still . . .
Motorcycles are, to my mind, inherently dangerous, no matter what precautions one might take--particularly in today's traffic patterns. As I posted yesterday, I am sure your decision to forgo the bike gives Mrs. Smithee cause for sighs of relief, and maybe your daughters too. But then, who knows what young people think about such things or, more to the point, if they think about such things. - Holly |
