>Re: Takeover stuff
Tim,
Yeah, I must agree that the tone of this thread has changed a bit recently. After Gary's thorough post of the conference, I think we all expected ASND to show more strength than it has. I for one would not complain about a $40 offer for ASND right now.
However, I just do not see it happening on valuation alone. I'm convinced that ASND managment would not take a $40 offer soley to get the stock to $40. That will come in time on its own if even 1/2 of what they said at the conference is true. They would, however, take a $40 deal if their ultimate goal is to partner with the right company for strategic reasons. They may even take less if that's their primary goal.
Funny, but I just do not get a sense now that ASND is anywhere near any kind of deal. LU, if they ever were gonna get ASND before Oct, 98 would have done it by now. If they do make a play for ASND, I predict it will not be until October, when they can take advantage of the pooling of interest. Nortel, on the other hand may make a run, but I kinda doubt that it'll be any time soon.
Oh well, it's kinda depressing being at $28 when you realize this dog is merely $6 off the yearly low, and $52 off the high in spite of the flood of good news recently.
BTW, presuming this deal happens, and you're not taking a position yet, how can you possibly hope to guess when it's gonna happen? You'll either have to pay much more than current levels or you'll miss it.
Oh well,
