America's "infrastructure" was designed form the start to promote gas consumption. The National Highway system was the brainchild of Alfred Sloan, the chairman of GM. Did you expect him to design anything that would not promote car sales? The whole thing was a betrayal of public funds and the public trust. BTW GM, Firestone Rubber, and Standard Oil formed a joint "venture", National City Lines, for the sole purpose of buying electric surface transit in more than 45 cities and shutting them down. When they were finally convicted, they were fined $5000! Ours is the government of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich. ST
