Acer Basic Announced Today

June 18, 1996

Acer Group released Acer Basic, a low price and basic function computer, today.
According to Acer Group, there will be a huge potential market (about 200 million sets) for basic computers. It is two times of the predicted figure of Microsoft. The price of Acer Basic will be under US$500.

The hardware of Acer Basic includes one Cyrix or AMD 5X86 CPU, 4Mbytes
memory, one retrievable 100Mbytes HDD, ONE 3.5" FDD, one Modem and Internet browser.

According to Third Wave, the software manufacturer who takes charge for Acer Basic's applications, Acer Basic's software includes DOS, Windows 3.1, CAI and various Games. Acer Basic is specially designed for beginners and some Internet users.

-The conspirators at the WSJ reported same previously, except they mentioned Zip instead of 100 HDD. Guess Zip doesn't have much brand equity in Acer's home market.
