RE: NC and Multiuser NT

"I can imagine what a crippled-down NC will perform like running NT in some emulation mode."

Whoa, you have this totally wrong. The NC doesn't run NT. It merely displays the NT GUI. The NT (WinFrame or WinCenterPro) runs on the servers to which the NC connects to. This concept is referred to as "distributed graphics" and was pioneered by engineers who worked on the X windowing system at the university that granted your PhD (MIT).

The NCD Exploras used by Intel employ this distributed graphics approach for serving up NT to its telecommuters. In situations where local processing or local storage aren't absolutely necessary there is obviously some advantage to using NCs over PCs otherwise Intel wouldn't be using the Exploras. The positive comments from the user in the message that I had linked to in reply 3201 indicate that the performance is just fine thank you.

If its good enough for Intel...
