Keep in mind that the average loss for all bear market declines of the past 80 years has been 30%, but the average loss for those bear markets lasting a year or more has been -42%. And that's an average. From peak to today the Dow decline is about average for bears lasting a year or more. My tendency is to dispel the idea that the magnitude of this one can be predicted based on past bear markets as we are in a new frontier. But its certainly worse than average.
