Testing bootable floppy:

The test of a bootable floppy is really 'Will it Boot?' when you need it. Just do as you said -- Insert floppy with power off and turn power on again. Your system should boot and you'll see the DOS 'C:\' prompt. You can try typing 'DIR' and your system should list a few files. If you get this far, your floppy is indeed bootable.

To make a 'plain vanilla' bootable floppy:

Put a floppy into the drive
In Explorer, Right click on your floppy drive (Usually 3.5 A)
Select Format...
Select Density (Usually 1.44 meg)

In Format type, Select Full
In Other options, Check Copy System Files

IF the floppy is already formatted, you could check the 'Copy System files only' under Format type and save a minute or two on the format.

You could also get here by right clicking MY Computer.

Hope this helps, PW.
