Let's talk about reality and BAM, Kent. 24% subscriber growth. That's reality. For international benchmarks, check out Telefonica, Turkcell, China Telecom, Mannesmann, Cellnet, the Philippines operators, South Africa and the French market.

The number of employees is really impressive. Just like Russia's steel industry. Apparently all that brainpower couldn't formulate a coherent international or even national strategy for BAM. They missed out on the mobile boom in developing countries by not investing there while the stakes were dirt cheap. Instead they decided to concentrate on the world's slowest-growing major mobile phone market.

Mobile data? Visit a BAM store and ask about WAP. Then ask about their M-banking plans for this quarter. Then ask when they intend to roll out 50 kbps data speed for mobile phones. The incomprehending, vacuous look in the eyes of the sales clerk reflects reality.

And chaz - the reason Vodafone is growing so much slower than Mannesmann is their US operations. That's a huge drag on their overall wireless growth. This is one of the reasons why Mannesmann is reluctant to agree to the take-over - their growth would be dragged down. And that's why Voda is desperate to get Mannesmann. They desperately need the real growth stories Mannesmann possesses; like Omnitel and D2.

Do you *really* want to defend the BAM subscriber growth? Are you aware of the international average subscriber growth?
