some China stocks are listed on a US exchange like SNP or DRUG.OB (aka DDD.T). you can buy them on the local US market. Many are quoted in HongKongs "Red Chip" section. You can buy them thru any bigger brokerage firm's international desk. Some discount brokers won't do it but I think a solid regional broker should be able to trade on foreign exchanges for you. Index stocks I'm not following so I can't give you any input here..
