We need to RE-REGULATE oil companies and undo the corrupt damage the Enron-Bush-Cheney years have done the peoples' power to even know what the oil companies are up to. Re-regulation and tough enforcement does not mean "nationalizing" oil companies, though oil is such a strategic product (as well as being harmful to the environment) that if any sector had to be netionalized that would be the most sensible one.

Also of concern, Big Oil has become a big cartel, a monopoly as they all seem to collude with each other, price-fix, spin the same PR lies, and bribe the same rightwing politicians (and a few others).

It is possible that since 2000 Big Energy has coinspired to gouge and steal over a trillion dollars from consumers, and Bush-Cheney and company were happy to let them do it.

Last week you also saw that the Exxon Valdez spill is still decimating nature in Alaska after 20 years. And now Bush wants to drill in Bristol Bay the world's most bountiful salmon breeding area. Bush is really evil when he does things like this because 25 years from now with new more honest leadership we'll probably not need oil very much anymore for fuel, but we sure as hell will need seafood.
