Misunderstanders of Islam gather in Iran: "I am sure millions of people who love Islam and the Koran will shout Death to Israel"
JIHAD WATCH

The mullahcracy is portraying any protesters as people "who want to help the Zionist regime," which in its eyes is the worst kind of demonization possible. And Gholam Reza Safaie, a top Khamenei aide, says confidently: "I am sure millions of people who love Islam and the Koran will shout Death to Israel."

How could he have gotten such an idea? Doesn't he know that anyone who loves Islam and the Koran reveres the Jews as "People of the Book" and wouldn't dream of shouting such a divisive, non-multicultural phrase as "Death to Israel"? How is it that so many Misunderstanders of Islam can be found in Iran? Where are the voices of those who understand the Religion of Peaceā„¢ correctly? Will Honest Ibe Hooper or Brave Ahmed Rehab of the Council on American-Islamic Relations issue a statement explaining that those who really love Islam and the Koran will reach out and try to build bridges with Jews and Israel?

I won't be holding my breath.

"Iran on alert for new opposition protests," by Farhad Pouladi for AFP, September 17 (thanks to James):

TEHRAN -- Hundreds of thousands of Iranians were set to march across Tehran on Friday in an annual display of solidarity with the Palestinians but this year it could turn into a flashpoint between regime hardliners and the opposition.

The security forces were expected to be out in force at the Al-Quds (Jerusalem) Day rally to quell any attempt by opponents of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to turn the gathering into a protest against his hotly contested re-election in June.

The elite Revolutionary Guards Corps issued a warning on Thursday that it would deal "decisively" with any attempt to mount what would be the first opposition protest since a July 19 demonstration held to mark the anniversary of student unrest in 1999.

"We are warning people and the movements who want to help the Zionist regime that if you seek any disruption or disorder during the glorious Quds Day rally, you will be decisively confronted by the courageous children of Iran," the Guards said....

Gholam Reza Safaie, a senior official in supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's office, said that any attempt by protesters would be drowned in the overall massive pro-Palestinian march.

"I am sure millions of people who love Islam and the Koran will shout Death to Israel... so if some people shout other slogans, they would be drowned," Safaie was quoted as saying on ILNA news agency.

"But it is sad that some people are acting like this even as US and Israel have failed to quell the importance of the Quds Day rally."...
