While Gore clearly did not invent the internet he has been instrumental in championing it and supporting it. To his credit he has an article in Scientific America during the 1989-1991 period where he speaks in detail about the promise and advantages of the internet, networking and how to apply it to the education of children. Considering the time period that the article was written, Gore was clearly on the leading edge of supporting and championing what has become the WWW and closely involved with Internet2, Abiline and other net initiatives.
