Unclewest, that was obviously a fake. Initially I didn't twig to it, but it was certainly interesting. By the last paragraph, it was obviously false.

If it had been an exchange, it would have been very quick witted and cruelly sharp on the mark. People aren't quite as good on the hoof as that.

Perhaps the fact that you thought it true [or otherwise why would you publish a lie] is the same reason that the WMD fantasy was believed too by those in power. They wanted to believe because it fitted their idea of how things are. Wanting-to-believe leads people to extraordinary fantasies and crazy ideas and on to malevolent actions and suicidal violence.

Perhaps the USA government could hire me as resident cynic. I didn't believe that Saddam had dirty great weapons of mass destruction and I didn't believe your post. There are quite a lot of things I don't believe which are quite popularly accepted, only to be found false at a later date.

My all time favourite was Time magazine doing a big cover story on male child prostitution in Moscow a decade [or more] ago. To me it was obviously false and the dressed up boy on the cover an obvious joke. Unfortunately for Time, it turned out to be a hoax and they were had, which they later admitted they were.

Being a cynic is a fun hobby. It's easier than golf, but lacking the challenge, has limited attraction. I spend more time cursing my inability to find the green with a 5 wood, than I do being disappointed at failing to notice a fake Office of Disinformation work of art.

PS: Surely you weren't dishonest enough to knowingly put that out despite it being false.
