Sing, I thought he did a good job. He covered the intranet marketplace, ROI, and demonstrated Netscape Communicator thoroughly.
That would have been enough for me today. Instead, he premiered Netscape Constellation, which essentially usurps the GUI of whatever OS it's running on and replaces it with a single Netscape GUI. It has active windows for push applications, all sorts of floating and collapsing toolbars, browser and messaging controls, etc. For all practical purposes it relegates whatever OS it is running on to the background. All his apps work on the Netscape desktop...eg Word, Excel, etc.
What I found amazing from Constellation is that a user can roam to any computer on the net, log in, and the user is presented with his personalized GUI! He can work on a Windows PC at the office, go home to his Apple, or to the engineering lab to a Unix workstation, log in, and be presented with the identical personalized desktop he has constructed for himself on his Windows machine. It impressed me greatly, as you can imagine. |
