Nonsense! The ARIS study had NOTHING to do with divorce rates for any groups. It is simply to identify American Religious Identification. PERIOD.
You know Brum is anti-science and believes Evolution is a scam! You know he cuts and pastes all his material from feeble anti-science ('we hate atheists') web sites such as Cornelius hunter and "Vox day". So when he posts that sort of crap from disreputable sources...your antennae should go up INSTANTLY. LOL!
Of course, Vox day completely fabricated that "finding". And he obviously has never read the study (I HAVE). The study was strictly about identifying religious affiliation through common demographics such as age and gender and household income. .5% (1/2 of 1% of the respondents) were atheists. 20% of ALL respondents had NEVER been married. And 55% were currently married. And 5% (of all respondents) were living with a partner at the time.
Unlless you are an idiot who is completely clueless about statistics...none of this can be extrapolated to say anything whatsoever about the rates of divorce for various denominations. The study that can speak to divorce rates WAS done by a devout religious researcher...whose findings have been replicated over and over.
Finally--please listen closely: Rates of divorce have NOTHING to do with how often people within a group get married. Atheists DO get married and when they do they STAY MARRIED more often than Christians who get married. Rates of divorce is not about rates of marriage it is about the percentage who keep their commitments and honor their contract in marriage.
To my knowlege there are no studies to show the rates of "breaking up" outside of marriage for all the various religous and non-religious groups...but given the research done on marriage we may conclude (using the Law of Parsimony and general common sense) that that atheists would continue to lead the field in keeping their commitments outside of marriage--just as studies indicate they do inside of marriage! Likewise...there is no reason to suspect that the millions of Christians who are so unfaithful and unreliable WITHIN marriage...would be anything but more of the same when Yahweh has not presided over their love!!
