Thanks Fred,
I like when people can back up their statements with numbers, etc. and not just say typical forum crap like "They Suck !" Not picking on you personally. I don't consider AMD dead till I see a body and I agree that without some healthy competition Intel wouldn't innovate so fast. It's good for us as consumers and investors. My company is a competitor to AMD but I don't really harbor them any ill will.
My remarks about "The Industry": Semi-stocks (which Intel is) are grouped as a whole, it's unfair to lump Intel in there certainly but thats the way it is. Intel has been recommended so many times in the past year that even I don't understand why the price isn't higher. I really think that as the semiconductor index rises Intel will get it's boost. The rising tide.......
So you were an IBMer ?, interesting. When did you leave ? I'm normally the last one to defend IBM, your observation that they've pulled more bonehead moves than ought to be legal is right on the money. However, since I was curious about the NC I started doing a lot of reading on the current/coming product lines and strategy. It's very interesting. One factoid I read this morning, Intel is the number 1 machine used for Web Servers followed by Sun, and IBM, both running UNIX/AIX. IBM is going to push the RS6000 as a web server platform, YAHOO is one site they won and they forecast very healthy growth rates for the UNIX/AIX machines as web machines. (not IBM's forecast) I believe I read that even IBM doesn't expect penetration of the NC to be greater than 30% of the corporate market, but I think you'll have to agree that under the old Akers "vision" an NC would have never been considered. I think its a vast improvement they are even taking a chance !
