Bob,

Think in the past you needed to send postmarked copies of your work to yourself as a clean way to establish ownership. The Net has made a mess of copyright as owned materials are lifted, reposted and even renamed under the illusion of "free flow of information".

I see a clear distinction between what I post first person on a stock board and pre-published material which I repost for the benefit of others on the board.

In discussing stolen materials with other webmasters, we've reached the conclusion one of the most effective ways to go after smaller operations that steal material is to file suit not only against the Internic entity owning the domain but also the host server on which it is based. Proving agency against the host is very difficult but it is such an expensive PIA for them to defend the suit that they make life miserable for the web site.
