Yes, it was incredibly shrewd! According to reports the Columbia army convinced a FARC group, one of many spread throughout the Columbian mountain areas, that they were actually another rebel group. Army officers masqueraded as rebels onboard the helicopter that spirited the hostages away. Amazing--great victory for the good guys & gals...some women among the hostages. It would be a major win for McCain if he cooperated in any way...why would he fly to Columbia on the same day of the planned hostage rescue?
