<<BEAVERTON, Ore., April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Tektronix, Inc. (NYSE: TEK - news), a digital video systems leader, today announced Detroit-based ABC affiliate WXYZ Channel 7 has purchased several of its newly announced award-winning HDTV products. WXYZ, part of the Scripps Howard Company, purchased the new Tektronix HD Performer, 7000 series router, an M-2100 master control system, and an OmniBus facility management system.
Tektronix showed many of its new HDTV products earlier this month at NAB'98. The company's HD110 Switcher was awarded best in show by Television Broadcast Magazine.
''We're very pleased to be working with one of the industry leaders and taking advantage of their expertise. Taking advantage of the vast resources of Tektronix Grass Valley Products is a win-win scenario,'' said Mike Doback, director of engineering at WXYZ. '' We have traditionally placed community service and providing the highest quality programming in the Detroit market as our first priority. We view our transition to digital and HDTV as continuing in this tradition.''
''WXYZ is setting a precedent in the Detroit market with their move into the digital and high-definition era,'' said Timothy Thorsteinson, president, Video and Networking Division, Tektronix. ''We at Tektronix are proud to partner with WXYZ, providing them the best, most reliable solution for this transition.''
WXYZ will leverage the Tektronix OmniBus facility to begin their transition to digital and high-definition television.
''Media, resource and facility management were important considerations in our choice of OmniBus,'' said Doback. ''Omnibus offers us an unprecedented level of flexibility with its open architecture approach to facility management.''
Future plans at WXYZ include an entire station upgrade to 601 serial digital, said Doback, adding that the movement of digital video data on an intra-facility basis will become more important in this new environment.
''It will become increasingly more significant as we migrate to reporter workstations and have video on the desktop,'' continued Doback. ''That's why we're excited about the Omnibus control layer.''
The station now has Tektronix Grass Valley(TM) master control, production switchers, Profile(R) video file servers, and NewStar(R) newsroom automation systems installed. The OmniBus facility management system will control two channels of on-air playout. One channel is standard definition (270 Mbps) and the other is HDTV (1.5 Gbps). The commercial material is provided by a mirrored pair of MPEG-2 4:2:2 Profile servers, with one input and two outputs, and 35.5 hours of RAID storage @ 12 Mb/s. The OmniBus system is configured for up to 18 RS-422 controlled devices. Customer-furnished tape machines, DVCPro, B-5, and Ampex 1'', will provide the program material. >> |
