Re: your "As I've stated earlier, I like and admire Intel. But in my opinion Andy Grove needs to quit talking so much about why the NC sucks (I agree it sucks, by the way) and more about what his vision is to build something that addresses much more of the market"

My read is a little different on AG's vision. It is the PC as a ubiquitious device for communications, computing etc. That model requires that PC's get more and more powerful, which requires more and more powerful chips and stuff from Intel. The reason for that is that Intel's business model is value added not cheap. Intel can only grow the bottom line if the top line growth is based on high margin product.

That said, it is not surprising that Intel is not interested in the NC. The margins will not be there because they will probably feature one generation chip (e.g. 486) less than the current market is buying.

But what Intel MUST focus on (and is IMHO) is to eliminate the obstacles to PC growth which can be hardware, software, and network related. That is why they got into the motherboard business. That is why they are focusing on bringing down the network maintenance cost with some software, and pushing Micrsoft in areas where they see them going too slow. And finally, looking for ways to expand bandwidth, which is a real handicap to growth is usage of PC's.

I believe this is the right goal: eliminate the barriers to PC growth in units and power. And that's why I'm a long term holder of Intel's stock.
