Dave,
I am as optimistic as you are for Apple's future. Although Dr. Gil didn't have a chance to execute his "three years" plan, he really did a good job during his tenure. It seems to me that Mr. Jobs has controlled Apple's decisions on every aspect since he was introducted into Apple by Dr. Gil. Anyone who wants to be the next CEO, he needs to be respected and trusted by Mr. Jobs. It is strange that after Dr. Gil's resignation, media reports seem to be nicer regarding Apple's news. It is unfair to Dr. Gil, but I don't understand what are driving forces to have such different responses.
Mr. Jobs is holding tough position on license negotiation with clones. I hope there is a settlement between two parties before Saturday, and also hope Apple can benefit through this long-run negotiation, which will pave the way for next OS in 98.
With a big revenue jump in Japan and Euorpe on last quarter's sale, I believe the trend will continue through next year with the latest OS as well as the most advanced hardware. As long as Apple can profit in next couple of quarters, and on-time delivery for next OS, it is not a dream to reach 40 by 7/98.
Although I miss Dr. Gil's leadership, I am looking forward to seeing a strong leader who can work closely with Mr. Jobs to be selected and wish Apple has an excellent sales on OS8 in the near future. |
