I will post this in this thread because the responses tend to be more reasonable than the Nav vs. IE or any of the other one.

Why must Sun give up Java? Not becuase MSFT, INTC or any other comapany says so but because Sun wants Java to be an ISO standard. This crap that Scott McNealy throws out about "if MS wants Sun to give up Java then they should give up Windows" is a crock! MSFT is not asking ISO to certify Windows as a standard. If MSFT ever did ask this of ISO then MSFT would need to give up control of Windows in the same way. This is very typical of what I believe of McNealy which is he wants the shroud of standardization without the real changes that come with it. What Scott McNealy wants everyone to buy into is that Sun can have a proprietary language and environment (read OS) that has the standards stamp on it. Of course Scotty doesn't want everyone saying Sun is proprietary because he whines about MS being proprietary as BAD. Sorry if this is a rant but I am growing very tired of Scott et al and this standards fight.
